  • Olive oil

I am looking to make some flavoured oils (lemon, chilli, basil etc) and I want some plain, simple olive oil.

I have tried Aldi, Lidl and Netto with not much success, my local Italian deli and importer has a nice, cheap extra virgin olive oil at £3.50/litre which seems as good as I can get.

But what I would really like is a nice neutral olive oil (no need for extra virgin) at about £2.00 - 2.50/litre. This does not seem an unreasonable price considering what you can find extra virgin for.

(I have read enough about olive pomace oil to rule this out, I'm sure it's only good for cooking if that.)

Any ideas where I could find some? I'm between Slough and Reading. Are there still 'cash and carry' places which you need a card for?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Costco or Makro? Costco tend to be cheaper. I think you can still get a day pass for Makro though.

Thanks Mandy, no prices for olive oil on their websites but I think I can wangle a card application. No mention of the day pass either.

Do you happen to know prices?

            Hi,

Normally run for 2 weeks starting on a wednesday. If you go to your nearest store with some ID they will usually let you in.

Do you have a company letter head? I can send you one if you need

I think if you work in goverment/health/army etc you go as well, most of the stores are quite relaxed about who gets in which upsets retail shops arround them. The products I sell to Makro/Costco won't be stocked in Pet shops in that area because anyone can buy cheaper at Makro, even if they don'y have there own business.

            Hope that helps,
            Mandy

Thanks Mandy, I do have my own letterhead and can probably even find a couple of invoices so if membership is instant that will be great.

Got my oil from Makro. It's Carbonell which is certainly an OK brand. I've got 8 litres which is 32 x 250ml flavoured oils, just going to start a few now.
