Can anyone tell me where is a good place to buy paraffin for my greenhouse heaters and how much I should expect to pay please?

Also is paraffin and kerosene the same thing?

    Thanks

The cheapest place I have found for paraffin is at my local allotment shop. Can't remember how much it was because I haven't bought any yet this year (only got a paraffin stove to make my cuppa just now and it seems to last for ever) but I do know it's less than half the price of the overpriced stuff you buy in homebase etc
The only difference is you have to supply your own container!

My local B&Q has a 4 litre container for £7.48 whereas the local garden centre has identical sized container for £5.15, so I would suggest trying your local garden centre.

As I said earlier, bought straight from the barrel and poured into your own container at your local allotment shop about £3.20 a gallon which is quite a bit more than 4 litres!

As Snadger says, if you have access to an allotment shop, who presumably buy in bulk and pass on the saving, then that's a good option. 4 litres is approx 7 pints, so £3.20 for a gallon, which is 8 pints, is good value. But for those of us that don't have lotties ...

We have a company down here that sells bulk engine oil/heating oil, they have pumps on the forecourt selling parafin you get the same amount or parafin as from the GC for half the price.

i get my paraffin, loose, from Jack's Hatch Garage Epping Green Road, Epping Green, Epping CM16 6QA , its 90p a litre, which is way cheaper than homebase!

Also get mine from local garage - buy it in 25l containers (they pump it) and you get money back on return of container. Haven't seen the price this year, but it is WAY cheaper than Homebase etc.

Kerosene and parafin are essentially the same but kerosene burners tend to be smokier. You are better off using proper horticultural paraffin from a garden centre as it burns much cleaner (you'll thank me come spring when you have to clean the soot off the inside of your greenhouse!) I buy mine for £4 for 5L from the local garden centre but Wyevale's is pretty good as well (£4 for 4L) and most areas have one
