  • Brambles/Blackberries

When we bought our house last year, the garden had been neglected for years. Along the fence there were lots of brambles, whilst I was renovating the house I managed to pick about 30lbs and put them in the freezer (they made the most amazing jam I've ever tasted). This year I trimmed them all back and tidied them up. Will this help the crop for this year or will it have hindered it?

Blackberries fruit on this year's canes,so if you've cut these down you won't get any fruit this year!
The canes to cut back are the one's that have just fruited then next spring cut out any that are skinny looking and keep the strong ones for fruiting that year.
    Hope this helps!
