Hi, can i ask a q, i have a 5 yr old plum tree,every year we have flowers but only get plums every other year, is this suppose to happen

They def do have a good year followed by a poor year. You could try thinning the fruit in a good year so it has more energy to put in the following year and this should help to even it out. Also last year's weather was rubbish for plums! -
Some plums, like some apples, are effectively biennial fruiters. I think they just need a rest between performances. If yours is one of these varieties you can't do much about it. (except buy another tree)Last edited by Flummery; 04-04-2008, 09:25 AM.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I have some plum blossom open now on my Victoria. Last year's crop was huge, but not so many flowers this year. Maybe I should have thinned more drastically last year, or maybe it wouldn't have made any difference?Comment
