    Hi I'm new - can you help with my netting

    Hi,

    I'm new to this forum and have heard many good things about it.

    I wonder if anyone can help?

    I want to put netting over my cabbage and cauliflowers. What is the best (and cheapest) way of keeping the netting away from the veggies so that the butterflies etc are kept away?

    The netting I have is the lightweight plastic type.

    This is for an allotment (first year for me) and the two areas are 8ft x 11ft and 28ft x 11 ft.

    Any ideas and advice would be welcome.

    Welcome to the vine 8LGM. Usually canes with either tennis balls, plastic coffee cups,plantpots or small plastic bottles on the top are enough to support your mesh and stop you poking your eyes out!

                You spotted the likeness in the photo to my real looks.

                The green thing is a radio active cucumber.

                              Hi Dad! (Can we all adopt you?)
                              I use yoghurt pots on bamboo canes to support my netting. Cheap and simple (like me?) I also put upturned tonic bottles on the canes I use to thread black cotton on to deter the birds. The bottles rattle which also helps in the bird scaring department.
