  • courgettes & lettuces

Ok, just planting out now, late I know, but mainly as I wasn't convinced the weathers been warm enough!

The courgettes have quite a long stem, about 4" with a flurry of leaves and activity on the end of it. How do I plant this out as the 'flurry' has just flopped over!

Do I plant and submerge the long stem into the ground just leaving the flurry on the top? Or leave the stem how it was when it came out of the pot? If you get what I mean!

Also, i've got two lots of lettuces on the go, cut and come again and just normal ones....except i've confused them when I transferred them to pots and i'm not sure what they are now! Is there a way of telling or shall I just cut away and I assume the one's which don't grow back won't be cut and come again?!

I would plant 75% of the courgette stem in the soil.

Planted my courgettes out today, cos they had started to 'flop' over. I always plant mine so seed leaves are sticking above the ground by barely 1/4 inch. The buried 'stems' should send out more roots.Problem I had was so much flippin rain, that when I dug my large hole it kept filling up with water, its so boggy. So had to fill with plenty of compost, then let it drain! Finally got them planted though.
