  • My first lettuce!

Sat down for lunch yesterday with the greens on my plate OUT OF MY GARDEN!!

Feel dead chuffed as it is the first time I have managed to grow my own veg without any help! Admitedly I got the original plant from the garden centre when it was still small. My own lettuce seeds are growing on a pace and will be ready to go out in the beds in the next couple of weeks - ooh this is so exciting!

    One very delighted Squirrel!

        hurray! well done Squirrel!

We had some of my salad leaves for tea last week - makes you proud doesn't it!

I've had somes lambs lettuce and more salad leaves just germinated in my greenhouse so I can keep it going through the summer - sadly my mini-greenhouse decided to take flying lessons across the garden yesterday so I've lost them!
Will have to start again! Good job they don't take long!

Freshly picked lettuce is great - lovely and crispy. The difference between your own grown which is on the plate within 30 minutes of picking and the stuff you buy is amazing.

I like to grow the cut & come again types so that I can just snip off however much I need at a time, that way it's always totally fresh as you don't need to store part unused lettuce in the fridge or anything(only 2 of us so we don't use a whole lettuce at once)
