Never really been one of my favouite vegs as I don't like celery very much either. Anyway was given a couple the other week so thought that I should make the effort. Only really ever had it grated and raw in the past and the rather strong celery taste kind of put me off. Anyway, this time cooked some in a gratin type dish on Saturday night and then a half and half mash last night. Both tasted loads better and I'd happily eat either again

However, now here's the yukky bit....................

Both me and OH have had slightly dodgy stomach's after eating it, not really bad, running to the loo type, but definitely a grumbling tum and OH's farting has been worse than usual (won't even let him try JAs!). Is this normal? We're used to eating loads of veg and have been fine apart from that!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It's never affected me that way Alison. I like it cooked too - it makes a stupendous soup. However, if that's the only thing you've eaten that's different from normal, sounds like it might be the culprit!

One of my favourite vegs - am going to try to grow it this year although it takes up a lot of space and is really cheap to buy - I like it boiled stupid and then mashed with mashed potato and served with loads of pepper and some nutmeg and butter.

What did you eat it WITH Alison?

Like Heywayne, I've made Celeriac & Apple Soup before now, and no ill-effects for either of us. I've boiled it stupid (sorry, not aimed at anyone in particular....although come to mention it...!) and pureed it, mashed it with potato, roasted it with other root veg, and, my absolute favourite, grated as a remoulade (sp?) and served with cold smoked turkey and saute potatoes. Mmm!

And there we go: Have three Celeriac Roots to harvest yet in The Potager..... thanks for reminding me!

Let's hope that we can all 'get to the bottom of this' for you!!

First time we had in as a gratin with some gamon steaks and carrots and second time mixed with potato as mash with a venison casserole from the freezer - nothing suspicious there to me. Have another one at home so will see what happens this week!!!!!!

I've never noticed that effect Alison and I eat it regularly. It's very nice pureed with apple.

Not really keen on puree, don't like the lack of texture and the way in oozes through your teeth but am guessing it'd be nice mashed together roughly.
