  • Marrow chutney?

One of the guys has made chutney from a huge marrow he grew! I've been asked, along with all other 40 plot holders whether they want a jar of chutney!
Of course I couldn't say no!!! Just wondered what to expect?

Chutney recipes are individual to the maker - my only suggestion is try it. If you don't like it you don't have to eat it. My problem at the moment is keeping up with demand. I made green tomato chutney and plum chutney (neither is sweet, as I tinker with the recipes and usually add some fresh chilli). I put it into small (baby food size) jars as I didn't want to overwhelm anyone. Everyone I've given them to is asking for more - HELP, I didn't make that much and I'd like some for myself.

Suck it and see Snadger. If it's any good let me know asap as I have a whopper on the dining table waiting to be despatched into something comestible.

How do you make that? I have loads of marrows always seem to miss at least 1 on each plant

So far have make marrow soup, chutney, jam, stuffed marrow and given loads away but any new form of alcohol sounds good to me

                Marrow Rum

The marrow should be ripe with tough and hard skin. Cut the stalk end off and scoop out the pith and seeds. Pack the cavity with demerara sugar, pour over some previously activated yeast and the juice of an orange. Replace the top of the marrow and seal it well with adhesive tape.
Hang the marrow and suspend in a warm place (or I just place it in a bucket with a cloth over the top and stick it in the airing cupboard) After 3 weeks the liquid in the marrow may show signs of leaking out. When this occurs, make a hole in the bottom of the marrow and allow the liquid to run out into a fermentation jar. Insert an airlock, and leave to ferment to a finish. (You can add a few raisins when transfering liquid to the fermenting jar.) Syphon off and bottle.

The longer you can keep this the better it will be.

                (Oh and Snadger... I'm a woman )

Thanks, io, I shall pass that to Scarey55. She has a number of vast marrows to deal with!
