When is the big moving day?

I don't put mine in the greenhouse until May overnight usually. I carry them out in the morning and then in most nights. Checking the weather. April generally is too cold. There was a hard frost here this morning.

Where about s are you? That will make a difference.

Same as Scarlet - over 10C at night. Moving them in and out daily. The GH has just reached 10C so I'll move them out to the GH when I've finished my coffee. No rush.

I spend about a month hardening off, but mine do go from house to outdoors eventually via a little blow-away.
So I do house to greenhouse in the day and back at night and then on to greenhouse at night and outside during the day before going out all the time. I try not to have anything anywhere that will fall below ten degrees.
Better to do it slowly to avoid shocking the plants into stopping - I did this last year when a warm late winter became a really long, cold late spring by which time I'd put a lot of stuff out. Harvesting was consistently about ten days late across the board last year.

The problem is patience I'm afraid and I am one of the worlds worst, we all tend to start sowing seed way too early. I'm in north east Scotland, I read everyone is sowing and join in, this year I have resisted, my plants are way too small to be going out yet, so hopefully by the time they are ready to go out, the weather will also be ready...�..I hope.

I'm afraid I would unhelpfully say"when it's time"

It will depend on
- size of plants
- legginess of plants
- kind of plant
- temperature
- shelteredness of greenhouse
- amount of sun they get in both locations
- if you are being nagged to get things out

I would say for me, the only things I have inside are tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and loofa, so I'll be quite late taking them out. Not least as the greenhouse is full of the things to go outside, which in turn are waiting for the weather as well as me to sort out the beds...

The outdoor toms will go out first

I suppose it will be best for me to switch them all about and have small plants closest to window and bigger ones on chairs at the back, ive given up on carrying them to an fro from GH. It was lot of effort and risk.

Also im located in Louth, Lincolnshire. The greenhouse is quite sheltered from wind.

I have always got no patience whether it is in the greenhouse or fishing or whatever. Made a propagator which holds 10 full size seed trays so I could sow end of January early February. No matter how hard I try I end up put a lot of stuff into early. Next year ??

We are forecast snow later in the week, so I am more cautious than some, but if you can put up a blowaway or something similar in the greenhouse it will help a bit, my greenhouse temps over night are dropping to 5 degrees, but the blowaway is managing 8 degrees.

Thanks. Hmmm tempting the large one is �25 at wilko. Would you say you consistently 3� higher. I would look to fill the bottom with bubble wrap.

I'm afraid our last frosts won't be until mid to late May here in north east lincolnshire so you have another couple of months to go. If you have a protected, sheltered spot where you can really protect a blowaway, and wrap it in bubblewrap, you can get away with it earlier than that, but it does come with risk.

I guess you will find out how risk averse you are as a gardener this year

Up here in the frozen North even further up than Burnie we can still get frosts in early June. I do have onions and leeks in the unheated greenhouse but the tender stuff is under artificial light with some bottom heat in the garage. Tomatoes sit and sulk if they get chilled so don't risk putting them out permanently without heat of some kind.

Annoyingly it can get really hot in the greenhouse during the day. it was 88.6f at it's hottest today and that was with the automatic opener functioning properly and the door open!!

Crikey some range of temperatures. Maybe it would an safest to invest in a bookshelf like yours then sarris and have it front window to maximize vertical space. How much will plants grow height wise in a month or two?
