  • Make hay whilst the sun shines!

This spell of fine weather is a god send.
With the lock down people have lots of spare time for gardening.
As I am retired it does not make much difference, I always have loads of time.
Although I often wonder where it all goes.

Anyway, I have just planted my Charlotte spuds. I make a shallow trench, line with some rotted manure. Then a layer of grass clipping, from the first cut of the year. A sprinkle of slug pellets.
Plant the spuds on the grass. A layer of compost from my compost bin. Means I have to dismantle a compost pile, no mean feat!
    Then top of with soil.
I normally wait till Easter but as per the title, make hay whilst the sun shines.
    Many other jobs in hand.

I work in McDonalds so as we closed on Monday I'm using all this free time to catch up on jobs on the allotment and make some serious inroads into knocking it into shape! It's supposed to get a bit chilly again next week but here in Northumberland the forecast is still dry thankfully so lots to do

Taken advantage of the sunny weather and sowed lots of seed, took my old shed which I took down to site the new greenhouse up to the allotment on the roof rack, no mean feat and my wife had a problem with the greenhouse being visible from the road so there is now a close boarded fence and gate.
