  • collecting eggs to hatch

Currently collecting my Marran eggs to hatch. How long should you store them before hatching? Collecting one egg every other day from a trio so might take a week or so to collect half a dozen.

Really dissappointed that we ended up with two hens and four cockerels (now one) from eggs.

If it was one hen she would take a week to hatch then before sitting.

Make sure they're stored correctly and them tilting or turn them a couple times a day to stop them sticking within their shells.

2 hens 4 cockerels is about right. There's always more boys to girls.....one hatch for me was 9 boys, 1 girl. So disappointing.

I was dead chuffed when I picked 6 chicks... I got four hens and two cockerels and convinced myself my skills at sexing them based on their behaviour was very good... or it might have been pure fluke!!!!!

        Fluke!

It can differ between breeds, but I always look for thicker legs, Sussex girls had stumpy wings, girls are much more timid. Boys will be cheeky. My boys could generally pick them out about 5 weeks. They loved doing the paper airplane trick to see if it came true!

I based it on the boys being more aggressive, girls being more timid and passive when picked up... it wasn’t a fluke I tell you... (well, maybe a little bit!)

Yes... same as flying the paper airplane. The boys look up and the girls duck
