  • The Ins and Outs of Gardening - a Challenge!!

There is a balance in having a garden/plot/whatever. If you don't sow or plant something, you're unlikely to be able to pick anything (apart from foraging).

What goes IN is balanced by what comes OUT (in theory).

My personal Challenge will be to Sow/Plant something every day and Pick something every day too - even if its just a sprig of mint or a snapped off daffodil.

I'm starting tomorrow and I'm going to record it in one of my many empty diaries.

    Care to join me?

Too early for me to sow or plant outside yet, but I like the idea

A pinch of mustard and cress in a little pot?
      A couple of daffodil bulbs?
      Garlic cloves?

        More musings................
A garden is like a bank account. You deposit seeds and time and withdraw food and flowers. If you invest well you'll accrue interest on your deposits and can withdraw far more than you invest.
Gardening accounts also have other benefits -

I like your plan VC and wish you well, but trying to sow every day would fill up the greenhouse before I could plant out
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

You don't have to sow a packet of seeds every day - it could be taking a cutting or transplanting a seedling into the garden.

In - Radish seeds in GH
Out - a frilly green mustard for tonight's stirfry.

Might it not be easier if we did a sow and pick once a week?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

They're just starting to show colour. Here's one I picked yesterday.

It would be easier but not really a challenge.

I dream of being able to do something every day. The last few weeks have been mercilessly low on time to do gardening or anything else for that matter. It will get better - I am taking a few Fridays off, in March and April, so maybe I can join in this challenge

In the time you've taken to post this ^^^ you could have put a few pea seeds on damp paper for sprouting!!
Or some cuttings in water to root.......

                            Excuses, excuses.....................I'm 'ard!!

I've got compost bags in the van - it would've taken me longer to go get them, than to post on here (she says, while writing the last bits of the essay that is due tomorrow night).

Tomorrow night I will have time to do something though! I will take part as much as I can
