  • Lemongrass

    Morning,

Does anyone grow this? I love cooking with it and it's bloomin expensive even at the Asian market near us. I bought some seeds last year and grew a couple of pretty big plants but they don't taste right. They smell nice and all that but it doesn't seem the same type you they use in thai food. It's darker and more woody with less flavour. A Chinese friend said the best way to grow stuff to cook is from lemongrass from the market that's sold to eat. Is this true? I'm keen to have another crack this year as a free supply of fresh lemongrass sounds very appealing. 😃. Anyone had any luck with lemongrass?

    Ta

I've got a pot. This I grew from seed. It has taken about two years to get to a point where you can harvest occasionally which is when the stalk is about as thick as your little finger. It lives in my conservatory in the summer and indoors in the winter as they like it really hot and you will never get bulbs if you are growing it as an annual.

I've also grown lemon grass from bought, just pop it in a glass of water and wait for roots to sprout. There isn't much difference, the main difference is giving it enough time, sun and heat to get big enough.
