  • First time growing garlic

Hi I'm quite new to growing veg and it's my first time growing garlic. I planted some cloves in October, they started off really well but now have yellow on the tips of the lower leaves. Is this normal?

Hi Damian and welcome to the Vine. It's perfectly normal for garlic to look like that at this time of year. They'll pick up as the season progresses.

          Hello Damian,

I had much the same concern last year, once the soil warms up they start growing great. Last year I nipped off any 'flower shoots' which seems to help the bulb. Tasted great in a stir fry too. I believe they were soft neck unsure if you should leave the stem on hard neck varieties. I will lastly add that I would lift using a fork and let them dry out completely before storage. Good luck!
