  • Bit of Blueberry Advice

I've got 3 blueberry plants in my garden and they're in slightly different locations. One fruits extremely well each year and the other barely does anything. Does anyone have any advice on how to get them both to fruit well? Could it be the difference in location?

(the third is a newer plant and a pink variety, very excited to try this year! hopefully it does something)

Soil type ie acid or not, and how much moisture stay in the soil over summer come to mind as possible issues which might vary depending on the planting place.

      Hi and welcome.
They may do better closer to each other as some need cross pollination.

What colour are the leaves on the ones that don't fruit, and do they put up new stems from the base. The ones that came with house here were poor coloured leaves and no new stems from base. Have added sulphur and iron sulphate to lower ph and fertilizer (they need special type ie ammonium rather than the normal nitrate form) Now get green leaves, new stems and okish amount of fruit. If green leaves and new stems then maybe pollination as VC says. Could be dry soil as Nickdub says, not a problem we get here often so cant say on that. Personally find them temperamental vs other fruit like raspberries, currants, etc. But maybe I should be eating the leaves rather than the fruit

Are they the same variety or different? Varieties differ in their degree of self-compatibility. Could also be a difference in light between the two sites, blueberries do like a lot of sun, although dislike overly high temperatures.
