  • Egg rings for plop burgers

In a recent post I detailed plop burgers
    https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...rs_100554.html
I suggested serving with fried eggs.
But fried eggs are very chaotic in shape and don't fit neatly on a burger.
Egg rings are the solution but unfortunatly you have to purchase them with money. This contravenes one of my highest principles and thus an alternative solution is required.

I tried a tuna tin with the bottom cut off. This worked well but cutting the bottom off provided endless opportunities for reducing your number of fingers!

I wonder if a cardboard ring would work. The cardboard you get with cakes etc. Sort of shiny on one side.
Cut to say 2 inch deep and as long as required to form a ring. Secured with a couple of staples.
They could be disposed of after use.

    What do you think?

I say save money and your temper in the long run: make your own cakes and buy the egg rings. Cardboard rings will suck up the fat and your eggs will stick to them.

Unless, of course, you're just looking for an excuse to buy your favourite cakes. In which case, I say go for it.

Jimmy I also gave up trying to make tuna tins work for me and eventually bought a couple of silicon egg rings from a local store they are perfect and well worth the couple of pounds they cost.
I've used them for crumpets as well they're not as deep as proper crumpet rings but still did the job.

        A few ideas....
Its for a burger?....so use an onion ring or a ring slice of a pepper.
Alternatively you could use a metal cookie cutter, or fold a piece of silver foil into a strip then make it into a ring. Better than cardboard!

I understand your thoughts, I bought an egg ring years ago then ditched it.
I now don't bother as I just love the chaotic look of an overhanging egg on a barm ( NW colloquial soft bread roll)

              Silver foil sounds good.
Chaotic eggs, no thanks, every thing should be in order.
Like gardening, nice neat rows of regimanted plants. None of this weirdo random sowing!

                Isn't "plop" randomly shaped?

Not in a burger press. So organised plop.
