  • Charlotte Storage

    Hi,
I've still got plenty of Charlotte potatoes at the allotment. I dug some up last week and they were great. My question is how long can I leave them there now it's getting colder? Should I dig them all up and store them in the shed or will they keep better left in the ground until I need them?
    Thanks.

I follow the local farmers and they have lifted all of theirs, so I did the same, just make sure the light can't get to them and turn them green and check them fairly regularly to make sure none are rotten.

I've been lifting my charlottes only this week. If you can't immediately get to them they should be ok, but I would lift them and store them in cardboard boxes, somewhere dark and cool. That way you can start enjoying them over the winter months

          Yes, I would lift them.
Store them somewhere cool in brown paper sacks.
Check for damaged ones before storing them.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
