  • Asparagus

First year of growing. There are lots of tall shoots which are now turning yellow and brow. Do I cut them at ground level or below ground level? If we had been allowed to harvest them, it would have been a good year. Cheers all.

Ground level, then mulch to protect the crowns from frost if you live in a cold area.

If you've got access to a shredder, bung them through and they can mulch themselves!

Wish I had read this thread sooner. Had to scrape ice off car before I could leave work this evening - and I haven’t mulched my asparagus yet....

They should be fine as pretty hardy to -20c odd. If have any disease or asparagus beetle then best not to use thier own stalks as mulch as will give them somewhere to survive the winter on/in
