  • Tunnel Staging advice please

    New to this.
I have a tunnel which will have three beds, one each side and one in middle.
Tunnel runs N/S and is 8mx5m.
I want some staging mainly for raising plants and also a small work area.
My question is where do you think I should position the staging?
Could I get away with growing any thing in bed under the staging?
    How many levels of staging?

My greenhouse at home has staging about 4 foot above the beds along the side. Toms do fine underneath - they generally end up taking over... If you put too much staging up over the bed I guess it will have an impact by reducing the light that gets down to the bed.

Have a look at some of Small pumpkin and other PT owner's photos in https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...9-a_98352.html for ideas.
I have staging with removable tops in my GH. I start seeds on in spring but remove it later in the year to grow tomatoes beneath.

My Tunnel is only 20ft by 10ft but I've put staging (made from old pallets) across one end (I can reach most of it without stepping on the soil. I grow bush tomatoes on top of it in the summer (after the seeds have all been planted out).

Rather than other staging, I hang pots (MFBs) from the support rods down the sides and grow strawberries in them. Don't get a huge crop and they need regular watering but they're earlier than outside ones.

If you can find some cheap, aluminum, fold-up picnic tables they do a job and can be left free standing then moved as and when - you don't want anything which is going to be troubled by the damp obviously - a wanted ad on Freecycle might be a start.

If it's n/s then you want the staging at the north end so you don't shade anything.
