  • Putting pen to paper

I have decided to keep a record of what I do and when (again) I am using a note book not a diary, but as I was updating it I realised that I am printing everything in capitals, how do you record things on paper by writing or printing?
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Generally writing, but print if I want others to read it ;-)

Rary I just print lower case, thinking about it I don't ever use just capitals even though my writing is rather messy.
      Location....East Midlands.

I do exactly the same as you rary. A page a day diary and all written in capitals.
This time of year there are lots of blank pages

          Proper joined writing for me.
          Capitals and then small ones.
I actually love handwriting with a proper inky pen.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

I am absolutely disorganized and useless. At varying times helpful friends/relatives have bought me various garden diaries/planners etc as presents and do start off with the best intentions.....I generally discover them months/years later with very little written in them, generally printed in capitals, which gets messier by the 4th or 5th entry.

However since I got my first smartphone (last xmas) I have been much better. I have managed to put some (not all) planting and harvesting dates in the diary and there are lots of photos which tell their own story. I have much more easily retrievable info about this year than any other. In the notes section I even have shopping lists for varieties of seeds I want along with ordinary shopping lists. I used to be the person with screwed up pieces of paper shoved in pockets and handbags.

Scribbled notes on scruffy bits of paper coupled with a nicely set out spread sheet and typed list. I then ignore the scruffy notes which will build up in the bottom of my bag, and I will spend ages on the typed word doc, only to forget the entire contents when I'm actually at the plot and could do with referencing it. And by that time I've also forgotten my scribbly notes.....

Print. 10 minutes after writing anything I cannot read it. My handwriting is terrible.

I have loads of books but they are all full of drawings, doodles, dried leaves and other bits and bobs. Photos are my form of diary. I take several most days and they are all dated - I refer back to them often.

It would seem that most of us print and for the same reason as my self, so that what you put do wn is ledgable, to your self if no one else though it is good to see that some of us like to write, as a tidy hand written note is nice to see, as for taking photos, a good idea but I think it would be t o expensive to print them out and carrying a computer and monotor screen out to the greenhouse just to compare photos would be a bit much

Scarlet I'll have you know that I recognise the sound of my phone ringing now. I usually stand there and say, to nobody in particular, "That must be my phone". By the time I've found the phone, turned it on and remembered how to accept the call, the caller has rung off.
                          They're always rubbish calls anyway!

As for rary's question, I mix up capitals and lower case, not deliberately, it just happens...............and I still can't read what I've written.

Well it's nice to see some of the older ones consider themselves to be from the younger generation, well in comparison with some Grapes I suppose they are correct but then so am I, now I will have to find out what an IPad is
and VC at least I can read mine

I hope it makes more sense than some of the posts you put on the Vine.
