  • Seed potatoes

Today I saw an entire pallet of seed potatoes being thrown away by a big DIY store, they are a tangle of sprouts and some have pea sized spuds on them, though they look healthy and still growing, the variety is called " Pentland Javelin ".

Are these useless now or could they still be planted ?

They can still be planted, especially if you can indoors in a poly tunnel or a green house. They can go outside but when the plants appear you need to protect t them against frost.
I have some of these chitting in my garage to plant in my poly tunnel to have as Christmas spuds.

Go for it Robert, and keep us posted.

I don't have a poly tunnel or greenhouse, but as my last lot of spud plants were all eaten so I was going to net the area anyway, a mini poly tunnel would solve two problems.

What ate all your spuds ?, was it the spuds themselves or was it the plants ?

Sometimes the pheasants like to pull up the spuds and pick at them, but never eat them, instead the pull up more and end up on the ground and turn green in the sun light.
