Brilliant Burnie!! I tried once but the lack of water didn't really go with growing celery

I grew the trench variety once. It looked amazing until I picked it.......every single stem was slugged. I've never tried since. I'm glad you've had better results.

A bit too bitter to eat raw, seems I'm impatient and it needs leaving for another month at least, will be ok for soups and stews though. It's not stringy and has a nice full flavor and long stalks with no obvious slug damage. It should have a pink tinge to it, so it's ready yet lol.

Well done! It’s always better after frost.

That's really impressive. I've grown celery twice and never got a plant more than six inches in height. Very little stalk. I'm not sure what I'm going wrong.

Thanks burnie. I’ve grown celery for the first time this year. I was wondering when it was ready

My celery has had a lot of water, the compost has not been allowed to dry out, a bit of tomato feed as well to top up the manure that was laid in the bottom of the trenches, by advisor told me the stuff is hungry and thirsty. It should now be blanched all the way up and only the top leaves sticking out, these should be covered to protect from frost too, I intend to drape fleece over mine when frost is expected.

My celery after 5 months growing is at the right size for planting out. Shame it is the latter half of September and not April.

I got three celery plants at the allotment open day, and they've actually done really well! The stalks aren't as thick as what you get in the supermarket, but they look very healthy indeed, and I've pinched off a stalk to try it, and it's tender too!

I've not grown them before ever. So they're not hardy? I can feel the nip in the air here in Grimsby, so maybe I should wrap them up in fleece?

My one attempt at celery produced stems so tough youcould havebroken a tooth on it. And that’s after cooking it.
Well done you all. Maybe I’ll have another attempt. You’ve inspired me.

Looks fab!! I attempted it last year was far to hot was not really watered resulted in 10cm in height stalks that were very stringy!! Maybe I should re attempt it!

This is my first try, I grew the self blanching stuff years ago and the kids Rabbits and Guinea pigs ate that, it was tasteless. It might be beginners luck, but I put a fair bit of prep work in to help moisture retention prior to planting and then watered daily, the seed I used is from Robinsons.
