    when should i take the heads off my sunflowers for the seeds? they are swollen now.

    Hi Aunt Sal, welcome to the Vine. I'd wait till we've had a good warm sunny day (or two if you can) so they are as dry as possible them cut them of with a bit of stalk on them. If you've a greenhouse put them in there or somewhere sunny to ripen fully, then when they've dried out the seeds should come out easy.

    It's a case of leaving as long as poss but beating the wildlife

      Can you eat seeds off all sorts of sunflowers? I have some multi heade red ones????

        thanks nick. advice appreciated, first year on allotment and doing well, will save some seeds for next years flowers then the rest for the birds and our hamster.
