  • pickled mouse melons

    Hi

This year I was given a mouse melon climbing plant, does anyone know a recipe for pickling them. Ive tried them raw but found them a bit bitter.

Hi Dexterdog ( hope you don't mind the abbreviation) I just knew someone would ask that...

It's a Cucamelon, a Mexican sour gherkin, they are a climber. They look like a tiny water melon just the size a mouse would take on a picnic. You can use them in salads and stir frys or pickle them. Apparently you can use a recipe for french gherkins to pickle them but I can't find a recipe for those either.

            Hi Nick,

            Thanks for the recipe....

sorry if I sound a bit dim but is that 1..... quarter of a pound of cornichons cos I cant quite make a out that bit. The rest of the recipe is clear.

I am also trying to find out what an American cup is equivalent to in pounds and ounces if anyone out there knows.

I've just bought the idiots guide to jams, jellies and preserves, looks like it is not so idiot proof after all. LOL

                Hi LesleyJay,

Thanks for the link to the conversion table, as they vary so much from ingredient to ingredient it looks like I might have to invest in a set. I have however printed off a copy as itis a very useful chart to have.

                Thanks Again
