  • Pickled eggs

Hi I pickled some jars of eggs for Christmas and New Year – Having miss calculated my family and friends love for pickled eggs -I have a couple of jars left how long do they last for? Eggs straight into malt vinegar?

    Regards
    Pat

Should last ages. Vinegar preserves chutneys and such for years. They might even mature and become even more desirable! (I'm the only one here who likes them!)

Fancy doing some mesel! I presume you use the clear vinegar?

Snadger now you have got me worried I have googled Mesel and this is what I got:

            Mesel (a) A Leper!

I am hoping it is a typo or I missed the point!!

Yep clear vinegar – I really though the family would love them but alas I am the only one! Not even my 7 yr old boy. I used to live in Kent - on the coast - I visited a few pubs that would offer a picked egg in a packet of crisps – You would choose a flavour and the bar person would open them and pop a pickled egg in to it…..go on try it -it’s great! A little nibble of egg with a crisp – Well that is my lunch sorted for tomorrow I will have to eat loads of salad for supper to make up on my five a day!
Thanks for all you comments I won’t rush into eating them now I know they will last

            Regards

            Pat

He's lapsed into the vernacular there that's all - mesel, or over where I came from, misen, means myself!

You mean speaking like a geordie? I think it is a great accent and breaks up the usual magnolia hum on the Archers

Pickled eggs I can take or leave, but my neighbours when in Orkney reckoned on pickling as the way to store summer's surplus for winter eating (I preferred waterglass, more versatile)
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
