Yes Mr Bones, i'll need to do my research. Maybe a good idea during the quite winter months away from the allotment I can get clued up. I think i'll still be worried even if I was certain it was a safe shroom.

The only things i've 'foraged' for before were blackberries, apples, plums and pears. I'd like to do more if time permits - it never does.

I carry "Food for Free" by Richard Mabey, a Collins Gem mini book in my pocket, most informative guide book.

Tried some of the now ripened Hazlenuts, a tad on the small side and if I'm honest not as tasty as I had hoped, but they were free. Will try growing a few as the coppiced wood will come in handy. Also found some Sweet Chestnuts, both locally and in Bamburgh when on a visit last week, tiny fruits, I guess way too far north for them to grow to any size.

Great year for Brambles or Blackberries, not so good for blueberries or Lingons, will go and check the Hazels tomorrow to see if they are ripe yet.
