    Rumtopf Spillage

    I have just checked my rumtopf and found that at some point it had spewed out of the top. I started it back whenever and followed a recipe from C.J.J.Berry's First steps in wine making.
    Its basically for evey pound of fruit you add 1/2lb sugar. I have found that for the size of Rumtopf jar its too much as I cant get the variety of fruit I wanted.
    I covered the top with loose cling film uder the lid to keep fruit flies out.
    Got a mess to clear up now, Its ok though. Dont think it has spoilt it.

    It shouldn't spew up at all as it's not supposed to ferment or anything so if it fitted in when you put the fruit etc in then it should still fit in so don't really understand what you mean?!? Mine's only about a third full this year as I forgot to put half the stuff in there that I meant to. Piled a load of autumn rasps in the other day though so all not lost.

    Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

        Sounds like it has fermented. Did you add any alcohol? Found this recipe on the web Recipe for Rumtopf

          I had to take some liquid out to get ore fruit in.

          Dont think I did as I had to take liquid out. Its fine and taste yummy.
