  • Home made cider (by accident)

Wow! I just made cider by accident

I had some windfall apples that I thought I should use so I cut them up and put them through my aged juicer, bottled the juice and thought it would be nice to drink fresh apple juice on a warm day.

I put the juice in the fridge in 3 GLASS bottles, went on holiday for 11 days and forgot about them.
I thought I should ditch them when I got back because they had probably gone off by now. Imagine my surprise when the juice fizzed as I opened the bottles. The result is a rather nice fizzy apple juice that tastes just like sweet cider

I am going to put it back into PLASTIC bottles and let it ferment out a bit more but it is delish so, if any of you have a glut of apples, this is a great way to use them up.

We put freshly squeezed apple juice in demijohns with nothing else added and make cider every year. The natural yeasts work brilliantly and we get a pretty decent alcohol content.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I don't know why I was surprised that it turned into cider I know that's how they make it but I didn't expect to be able to do it that easily.

I'm certainly going to try your way Alison, I have quite a few apples left and it's my birthday soon so I might be able to wangle a newer juicer as a present

I'm giving this serious consideration as I don't like the commercial apple flavoured pop that's sold locally, I have three trees and I'm sure they will produce a few pints.

OH uses a small scale press but he does make quite a bit
