  • Pinching out peas

I'm new here but I'm an old gardener from years ago, I found you because I had found something that I could pass on... I don't have any fancy setup or greenhouse. I'm growing my peas and broad beans in my porch prior to putting them outside later. They were growing a bit tall, so I pinched out the peas to slow them down a little. Success, they have sprouted new growth lower down, it's the first time I've done it. So I wanted to pass this on to others... pinch out your peas, they will still grow away with no problem

    Welcome to the vine

It works with sweet peas so there's no reason it wouldn't work with edible one.

I've noticed the same thing happening on the peas I grow for shoots. Once I've harvested for the first time.

Hello, Phlox. Welcome to the Vine.

One of the things I like about gardening is there's always something new to learn.

Hope you have a great gardening year and a good pea harvest.

Thanks, I read so many posts from gardeners that never pinched out their peas that I thought I would try it to find out if it can work... and it does. I only have a tiny crop, but it keeps my interest up giving a few fresh toms, cues, peas and beans. Being quite old and unfit doesn't help, but I still try.

Hi Phlox and welcome to the Forum.
Its always good to hear tips from other gardeners. I've noticed that all gardeners take pleasure in sharing, be it seeds, plants or tips.
Hope to hear more from you too. Thank you.

Hi Phlox, I’m going to try this on my one Sweet Pea that I managed to germinate.

I’m also going to try it on my eating Peas when I do those.

            Kind Regards.............Rob

Phlox no excuses for being ‘old’ We all benefit from the experience of other growers. Thanks for the tip.

Welcome to the Vine Phlox - you'll fit in well here, we are all old and unfit on here.

As long as you enjoy it, Phlox, that's what matters.
Bet those peas will taste good too!

                      Welcome Phlox

You say old but I say experienced. Always good to hear advise from fellow growers.

I do it with the peas I grow for exhibition, and then I reduce the number of shoots to the strongest one and grow on from there.

Ah HA! No wonder I feel so at home on the forums.... What is it with Kevins? I'm married to one and he's a Wit, too.

Welcome, Phlox, and cheers for the advice. May your peas prosper
