  • Not a complete noobie, but quite out of touch.

    Good morning.

    Quick introduction of myself.
I'm 34 years old, and work in IT as a my day job for pretty my most of my working life thus far.
Out of IT my interests are in psychology, hypnotherapy, graphic design, watching a lot of Sci-Fi/Thriller/Drama/Action TV shows/movies.

I'm a father of 1 (soon to be 2) children.

The last time I put so much effort in gardening was when I was growing some herbs a long time ago. Teenage years are times to experiment I guess, however, naturally time goes on and we mature into sensible adults (well, most of us do).

I've come back into gardening as I've been looking at my garden at home and it looks like a complete mess at times. My mum normally does a lot of it, but due to her back problems she has not been able to do much, and I really want to help out and get some shape back into the garden.

I've been reading around and looking at what people have done with their gardens, which has inspired me to get some raised beds in place.
I was going to go all out and set up 6 raised beds (three on the left and 3 on the right sides of the garden), but my mother said, you might be getting too excited and advised to start small first and then see how the following year goes. Mum do know best, so I did what she said.

I went around local timber warehouses and got a whole bunch of wooden pallets.
I looked on YouTuonline to see how I can make me raised beds with pallets.
I also looked on YouTube to see what would be the best way to take the wood apart and then putting it back together. This was the HARDEST PART! Non of the advice helped and it took me almost the whole day to take the pallets apart.

Anyway.... I now have a single raised bed (2m x 1m x 0.3m) at the back of the garden in the centre where it gets most of the sunlight, and a compost bin (1m x 0.6m x 0.6m), all made from garden pallets.

I've been on the hunt for some manure, and found some stables next to me provide a good supply when we want it.
I will soon be going to my neighbours and asking for some of their garden waste should I fall short on filling my bin. (I probably wont and it seems like a small bin).

I've started to grow some tomatoes which are about 5 weeks old now I think, and also some radishes and beetroot.
I'm very behind and so I will be looking at my local plant nurseries/garden centres to see what they have that I can plant out.

So, that is me so far.
I shall continue to learn more during my stay here, and wish everyone well!

    Happy Gardening.
