    Hi

Just thought I would introduce myself. I have been alotmenting for two years now, still trying to get my plot in some sort of order. It was half covered in 6' brambles when I took it over and I have been gradually reclaiming it a section at a time, the last section hopefully sorted this year.

Not a great deal of experience with growing anything prior to getting the alotment but wanted something that would nake up for being stuck in the office all day. Most Sucessful so far courgettes least successful cauliflower tried two years and so far only leaves.

Hi Veggielot, welcome. Stick around and you will learn loads (I still am) and also realise that 'failures' are par for the course with growing.....

            Just enjoy ...

Welcome Veggielot. Lots of advice here but tempered with a warning.......you will become addicted!

I am trying caulis for the first time too. I suspect my initial 9 seedlings are no more after last night in the cold (-5) greenhouse last night......if so I will plant some more.....

I've also ordered some brassica plug plants in case my seedlings fail.

                Good luck with the growing.......

                Loving my allotment!

Brambles ... can be useful. Are they on a fence? If not, build them one, and keep them trained to it. Great for berries, great nesting for birds (butterflies & ladybirds too), great anti-burglar device.

Any bramble that's not on the fence, cut it off. They root from the tip, so never let those tips touch the ground.
Any roots will need digging out ~ keep the bramble patch covered with something like a thick tarp etc until you can get round to digging.
