  • New allotment

I've taken on a plot 38yds X 12 yds near Truro. Not worked for a year and covered in all sorts. It does have a shed, water butt, composter and 3 cold frames, 2 Apple trees, 1Victoria plum, 1Damson, 2 Blackcurrants, 1Jostaberry?, 1Redcurrant, and a Strawberry bed, so plenty to get on with.
Already taken lots of advice from this forum and expect to be a regular visitor, so you can expect some silly questions!

    Hello and welcome

Sounds like you've inherited a nice little orchard there - as long as you like fruit

Glad you've stopped lurking under the undergrowth so fire away with your questions. None of them are silly - although the same might not be true of the answers

Essexboy - you will find out that some Grapes talk Cobblers. They may, however, need to share the recipe.

Sorry for delay. It had got into the wrong section of my recipe tin....
                    700 g damsons
                    225g sugar
                    150ml water
                    175g S R flour
                    pinch salt
                    25g caster sugar75g shredded suet
                    milk to mix

Stew damson with sugar and water till pulpy. Remove stones and pour into an oven proof dish. (Taste at this stage and add a bit more sugar if it’s too tart). Mix together flour, salt, sugar, suet and enough milk to give a soft dough. Shape into eight dumplings and place in a circle on the stewed damsons.Bake at 180 degrees for about 40 mins, until the dumplings are well risen and light.
