  • New allotment tenant!!!

Just taken over a 5 rod allotment after a 4yr wait and would like some advice please. It has a greenhouse in situ and 3 as yet unknown fruit trees, one at least which needs to be removed. The plot has a few raspberry canes and a few strawberry plants. We intend making a few raised beds for veg and growing some flowers suitable for cutting. Would it be advisable to plant a victoria plum tree and a blackberry bush or will this be too invasive given the plans we have??

Blackberries can be trained to control them: mine is 6ft high and 10ft wide, trained along the perimeter fence.

Fruit trees can be contained by carefully selecting the correct rootstock: FB is your man. Find him in Members, and do a search of his posts.

Here're a couple to get you started:

Why do you need to remove one of the fruit trees?

it appears to be dead and would in any case have overshadowed part of the plot
