  • Hi from Shetland islands

    Hi everyone!
my name is David and i live in whalsay "Bonnie Isle" which is a small island (5 miles long and 2 miles wide) of the east coast of mainland shetland,
I have desided that to add to my fresh eggs for my hens and meat from the sheep I would start growing my own veg!
have planted some garlic in pots and they are sprouting away nicely and have built a few raised beds so i could add plenty of compost to are horried dense peat soil we hav here,
will be planting my winter onion and shallots sets some time this week and start work getting the other raised beds ready and covered for planting after the winter.
have had lots of fun reading through the posts and have found lots of helpful advice thats people!

Hi there and welcome to the vine!
A friend of mine moved up to the Shetlands a few years ago and before he went, he showed me some pictures he'd taken up there. I absolutely adore the place from looking at those pics and I'm sure it's my Swedish roots that draw me up that way. You guys have more viking traditions than the swedes do lol
I'd love to hear how you get on with the veg growing. Who knows - one day I may travel up there
