  • Hi from near Reading

Good morning - I have just found this great website - lots of interesting topics which will be really useful. I took on an allotment as of March 1st. I have done some gardening at home but the back garden is home to 10 free range hens. I am also in process of setting up some bee hives - well I'm half way through a bee keeping course and am booked up to a beehive workshop along with mrbusy. We plan on putting the hives on the allotment site as there are communal orchard areas. The allotment is £25 per year. Water to each plot from a bore hole which has a petrol driven pump. My plot is in good order - the previous put alot of grass down for his children to play on so minimal weeds. I have garlic started off in cold greenhouse and broad beans and spuds and globe chokes and some fresh raspberry canes to get started. Asparagus crowns are ordered. I am hoping to put in as many perennial veg as I can. Everything will need to be protected from deer and rabbits. I am a big fan of Charles Dowding and did a great workshop last autumn at his place. That's it for now...look forward to meeting you.

Hello there, another Reading girl here (well, near Reading) Used to work at the Brewery - don't think it is there any more.

Sounds as if you have a lot gardening experience, looking forward to an exchange of ideas.
