  • Hi from Cumbria

    Hello folks,

I retired last year after 40 years working offshore in the oil and gas industry. I've grown culinary herbs for many years, but nothing else, as working away from home is not really compatible with looking after plants that need attention. Now that I've got the time I've decided this year to try to grow some vegetables. After trying and failing to grow tomatoes this year I've realised that there's more to this gardening lark than just sowing a few seeds and hoping for the best. Looking through the posts in this forum I reckon this is just the place to help me get the advice I need to stop wasting my time and money and actually produce something!

Hello Mike and welcome from another idle layabout - I mean retiree
Tomatoes have been a bit slow to ripen this year - I'm still waiting for the big ones to turn red. Tell us what went wrong for you and we'll do our best to put it right. I'm as determined as you are, that next year you'll be eating your own grown toms.
