  • Hi to all from another newbie

    Hi everyone,

Just a quick message to say hello and introduce myself. I started posting on the weekend and didn't see this forum until now. I'm a relative newcomer to gardening, having gotten an allotment April 2007. Before moving to the UK 18 or so months ago, I didn't have even a garden, living in a flat for many years. So I'm both keenly growing veg on the allotment and not so keenly raking leaves and preparing to mow the lawn in the yard.

I'm looking forward to growing lots of different beans, peas and pumpkin/squashes this year. Summer 2007 wasn't anything spectacular, but if this summer follows the heat waves of previous years, I'm also optimistically hoping for several varieties of tomatoes and peppers. I even have a melon plant to try!

Hi and welcome Growem. I am also giving melons another try this year. I did get one fruit to form last year but it gave up at a little under ping-pong ball size.

Hi, Growem, welcome to GYO. This pic of my largest pumpkin last season just about sums up the state of the weather.

            Fingers crossed for this summer

Ah Terrier, you poor thing! Actually, I did get a few nice pumpkins last year. I got two plants from the garden centre that were labelled as butternut squash but ended up being pumpkins. If you look at my profile picture, you can see how big they got. There were 4 around that size although this one was the biggest.

Hello Growen and welcome to the vine. I was lucky with squashes (summer and winter) last year as they produce loads but wasn't that lucky with all outdoor tomatoes as they were all blighted. I am hoping for the better summer this year got loads of toms to try again . Good luck with your 2008 growing plan.
