  • Hello from a Newbie

    Hello.
I've just joined the Forum having enjoyed the magazine for some time. I am the proud owner of an allotment in Manchester and having only got it late last year this is my first proper year at it (so very much the clueless novice i'm afraid). Unfortunately I havent been down there all weekend because I have man flu, so whilst i'm sat at home feeling sorry for myself I can take the opportunity to say hello to all.

Hello, hope the dreaded man-flu (aka little cold!) clears up soon. I was born and grew up in Manchester. What are you growing this year?

        Hello Flummery
I'm 'trying' to grow pretty much everything. I've had my spuds in for a few weeks (both earlies and mains). I've started some sweetcorn, toms, chillies, cabbage, swede and anything else I can lay my hands on. My level of expectation is set quite low, so anything I grow to eat will be a welcome and suprising success.

                Hello Phil

Me and my partner just got our plot at the start of March. It was a complete jungle of weeds and even though I have dug over it in the middle it is still a work in progress. I have put spuds in and peas and onions - also from experience I get rock bottom price 'awful' plants from Woolworth and find in years to come they are great. Let me know how you go on!!

Ah Salford, I know it well coming from Bury. I have to say that Salford always looks blurry when you are travelling as fast as I do through it!!!

My other half is also called Phil, and also from Salford!

                    Hope you soon feel better.
