  • A great big hello from Yorkshire!

    Hi there
It has always been my dream to grow my own veg and fruit-moved around a lot and no garden...
Moved to a house with a garden (yippee) and my hubby got me a subscription to Grow Your Own in February this year-wow I was so surprised by the free fruit trees and then seeds each month, it was packed with lots of info and it is my bible!
My hubby has made me 3 raised beds and whatever I can grow in pots and hangers I do! I have kept to organic too which I am very proud of! I have a great book to called Crops in Pots, it just shows how many veg you can plant even if you only have a small patio!
So there I was in May planting seeds and then again last weekend-the garden looks lovely and it is soooo relaxing outside, our son is disabled so it is very therapeutic for us to go out into the garden and pot and seed away and watch the seeds grow. Mind you we have had a lot of rain which hasn't been great!
We have radishes, 3 varieties of tomatoes, carrots, an abundance of various lettices, rocket, spring onions, beetroot, sweetcorn (not sure if it will grow though) 2 varieties of peppers, aubergines, beans, swiss chard, leek, brocoli and then fruit trees which are gooseberries, blueberry, 3 rasbperry, 2 gobi-berries and strawberries (still growing in tiny pot).
A lot of the fruit trees and most of the seeds were free with my subscription. We don't have an alotment but I really enjoyed watching River Cottage-Spring, where he got a group of families to turn waste land into a small holding....hmmm another dream but maybe when we retire!!!
Still finding my feet and trying to jargon bust names of tools or techniques!!
I am here to stay and will be asking plenty of questions so say hi if you like!
    Cheerio for now.
