  • First post, hello all!

    Afternoon all!
I decided that I'd been lurking for long enough now and thought it was about time I poked my head in and give a quick 'Hello' to everyone on the G.Y.O. forums.
For the last six months or so I have been silently trawling through the site since taking on a half-size plot last September in North London.
I've found the site to be really useful and have picked up a lot of practical information over those six months, some of which has helped me make a few decisions about what I intend to do over the coming year on the new plot.
Up until now I have just been clearing the site of weeds, setting out and digging over a number of beds as well as putting in three raised beds and filling them with manure.
The only things in the ground so far are garlic sets which were planted in October/November and onion sets which went in around the beginning of February.
At the moment I'm also tending to a couple of dozen tomato seedlings and half a dozen Rainbow Chard sprouts indoors, just waiting for the opportunity to get them outside.
Maybe it was the hint of sunshine today that has spurred me on to say hi, but I'm hoping *touch wood* that the weather will turn soon and be kind to us this year.
Anyway, that's the intro done, so here's to a happy and fruitful growing season for everybody!

Hello and welcome. Your chard can go out whenever you like - but harden them off first - outside in the day and back at night for a week or so. Hang on to the toms though. The first hint of frost will flatten them.

Sounds like you've been making good use of the time since you got your plot (apart from 'stalking' innocent gardeners on their home-from-home forum!)

Glad to have you on board!
