  • T'Herbs day Thursday

I'm going to make Thursday my Herbs Day - when I do things with herbs. It could be sowing, taking cuttings, planting out or picking for use.

Anyone fancy joining me on T'Herbs day?
Sharing what you've done and encouraging the rest of us to do the same?

Count me in, I ignore my herbs until I need some for a recipe or a drink.
    My list
    Herb fennel
    Oregano
    Basil
    Assorted mints
    Winter savoury
    Bay
    Rosemary
    Sages
    Parsley
    Thyme
    Lavender
    chives
    Think that's them all

      Same here Bren.
I have lots of herb seeds but never sow any! I don't use many either - except to brush against as I wander around the garden.
Need to challenge myself a bit more.

Not sure I’ll be joining in much, but I’ll be watching with interest.
I do have to split or take cuttings from lots of my herbs. I’m sure you all know why but I’ll mention it again anyway, for my new garden! (Wow you lot are going to be sick of me soon.....if you’re not already)
I’ve also decided I’m going to reduce my herb collection. Like VC I don’t actually use many. So I’m going to just stick with those. Some others will get moved to the flower bed.

Plan for today is to cut the tops of my Basil and leave them to root in water, then cut and freeze both oregano and mint.

I'm going to sow some parsley, chervil and basil for the GH and cut back some of the mints that are flowering.

All 3 completed, the basil will be left on the kitchen window sill it usually does ok over winter there.

Closest to doing anything was noticing my mint is flowering.

                      What I hsve growing.
                      Parsley.
                      Thyme.
                      Garlic chives.
                      Oregano.
                      Rosemary.
                      Lavender.
                      Bay,
                      Fennell.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                        Herbs Day Thursday tomorrow.
Weather permitting I need to cut back the mint and lemon balm that is hanging over the path,
Shake up the chive seed heads that have been drying in the GH and bag up the seeds - will sow some too.
Pot up a spearmint grown from seed.

I'm sure I'll think of more before tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'll be potting on those Basil tops now they've made enough roots.

Potting on complete, plus I've froze more ice cube trays of mint.

Its rained all day here and I've hardly been outside the house. That's my excuse for not doing what I said.
                              More tasks for catch-up Saturday.
