Rosemary is not the easiest to grow from seed - as suggested, try and get some cuttings from someone with an established bush near you.

I lost all my 3 bushes of rosemary in the last winter. I'm using a small plant I got from the local nursery last week, but they don't seem to have the variety or size they had last year. I shall acquire some cuttings from my sister.

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

Homebase, B&Q and garden centres would all have rosemary plants available in early spring, you will probably only find larger, more expensive, plants in flower now. Best bet is to find someone to give you cuttings, or if want to try growing from seed, you could try: suffolkherbs.co.uk by mail order.

I sown half a tray of Rosemary seeds on May 10th and this morning one tiny seedling has appeared so I'm really chuffed
I did take cutting on the same day just to hedge my bets so hopefully these will eventually replace mine that's gone woody.

                Hi Neil
If you put your location in your profile you may find a forum member living close who will give you a cutting.

I grew mine from a cutting ( just pushed it in the ground )

Just out of interest - I was working in Dudley last week and growing over the fence in the car park was a rosemary bush.
It was about 7 feet tall - I didnt know it could get this big.

i've taken a few cuttings of my plant a couple of weeks ago. they are sitting there in the conservatory (i'm keeping them moist) not really doing much.

how long until i can expect to see some signs of growth?

My cuttings have finally rooted after 7 weeks, 2 out of 6 of them have tiny roots.

well, about 3 weeks later and the cuttings have definitely rooted and started to grow in the pot. i guess once they get a little bigger i'll need to separate them out.

previously i've only grown Rosemary in a pot. if i want to plant these cutting into the ground is there a time of the year i should do it? Also what conditions does Rosemary prefer?

Out of a whole pack of seeds, I had I think around 3 germinate. 2 are left now. Won't bother with seeds inthe future, I'll get a cutting off someone (some one here offered me one very kindly, but as I had two germiante I thought i'd try with these first).

Would be great to grow a big bush from seed though...

I love Rosemary. I bought a small one about 2 years back and its now about 2.5 feet high and a lovely bush. Took cuttings from it and they are doing really well. Plan to do some more, I have the fancies for a rosemary hedge in the front garden.
