  • My basil leaves are turning brown?

They are also looking a bit like they are folding inwards, I have it in the kitchen on the windowsill and the kitchen get really hot when cooking, should I move them elsewhere or maybe water them a bit more, I watered it once since buying last week.

The soil should be moist to touch. They will dry out indoors; it sounds like they need water.

Also, Basil doesn't like being watered from above, so put it on a saucer if it's not already on one and pour the water into that and let it get soaked up.

Ok thanks guys, I will put the herb on a saucer and add water to it and see how it goes.

I find that I can't keep basil on the window ledge at this time of year as it gets too cold at night so I have to remember to move it each morning and evening.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Basil is watered nicely, not too wet, just moist. I moved it in to the dinning room because of the sun on the windowsill in the kitchen, the dinning room gets nice lighting but where it is it doesn't get direct light, the leaves are drooping and the greeness is turning crumbly as if it's dried out.

Need to be careful with basil in a window sill at this time of year if the room has thick curtains - they trap the cold air behind them, i.e. where your plants are, and this will kill the less hardy herbs like basil and coriander quite quickly

My basil leaves just folded up and withered - I was keeping it on the kitchen window and I think it was definitely too cold at night.

Ah well, next time I'm in the supermarket I'll buy another pot or two.

my basil in the courtyard - yes, outdoors - is still going strong. I was going to take a picture of it with snow on it the other day but I was too lazy.

I promise I will in the next few days...if we get a cold icy morning.

wow! i cant even GET basil to grow outside, even down here.

my mint however, which was wilting in the kitchen a week or so back, got thrown out on to the patio, and despite the ice is looking the best it has all year?
