  • Ideas for herb box

My partner has killed my pot of herbs by not watering them I have lost my wonderful purple basil and ginger mint....... along with some other common ones.

I have had a thought I would like to grow herbs again and would love to hear favourites so I can do a little research and create a lovely smelling box again.

    Thanks in advance

Lemon balm/bee balm/honey balm (but maybe not in a box with other herbs as is quite rampant?) - smell, for citronella, insect repellant and medicinal/nutritional purposes/attracting bees/butterflies - can also make a pesto out of this as you can with basil
Lavender - for smell, drying, baking, wildlife, drawers, hanging
sage - for stuffing, baking, burning/incense
rosemary -stuffing, adding to roast potatoes
    Camomile - for tea/medicinal/sleep - don't use if pregnant

For me - I have to have basil and french tarragon - for the smell and cooking!

ETA I love the thought of Taff ogging on as in 'oggy oggy oggy!'

For lovely smelling plants, I also like pineapple sage and lemon verbena - both rather tender but so worth it. Oh, and lemon thyme, especially the silver-edged variegated one.

Oregano, sage, savoury,, basil, french tarragon, chamomile, chives, garlic chives, parley, flat leafed one just died but the curly one out in the herb garden is lookiing pretty good.
Cornish Pepper Leaf - altho not in a pot with others. It grows in the wild here and mine is coping with -5C atm so a nice outdoors herb plant, looks great with red branches and glossy green leaves.

Never heard of "Cornish Pepper Leaf"! I'm gonna have to try some.
Lime or lemon basil is fab (esp. if you eat alot of fish) and I'm never without coriander. If you do think you fancy trying lemon balm - Keep it in a pot, it really is a weed...

In the polytunnel I've got lots of different basils - cinnamon basil, spice basil, black opal, lemon basil, ruffled basil and the normal kind - they smell fab - really 'exotic'!

In the actual herb bed, I have:
Mint (2 kinds), bay tree, rosemary, summer savoury, chives, oregano, marjoram, lemon balm, sage, thyme, nasturtium, caraway, borage, chervil - I love running my hands through the leaves - smells fantastic!

I grow oregano (green and golden), fennel - (green and bronze), mint (apple, pineapple, chocolate, variegated, peppermint), sage (purple, common, variegated), lots of different thymes, rosemary (upright and prostrate), bay, various lavenders, lemon balm (green and variegated), lovage, rue (don't bother), chives,
borage (blue and white) etc. There must be more but all of these are perennial or self seed easily.
My must haves are oregano, applemint, thyme and rosemary.
