  • Best time to gather lavender seeds

    Hi all,

There's this big patch of lavender that I walk past most days and I was thinking of taking some seeds from them to grow next year. However, not exactly sure when to till when they are ready to harvest. Any advice would be great.

well I usually cut mine just when they are going into flower, then dry them and shake the seeds out later, but as i only use them fro fried flowers you may want to leave it a little longer and do it whhen the flowers are just past full bloom, cut the lavender and pop it in water at home, that way you can catch the seeds as they start to drop naturally, and boy do they drop, they are tiny and look like very small poppy seeds littered all around the vase.when they start to drop, stick the bunch upside down into a paper bag and shake, they will all drop into the bag of their own accord.

Or you could take a few cuttings, few things root as easily as lavender.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I do my lavender by cuttings too. Keep them on the dry side or they'll rot.

Pick a couple of stalks, shake them into your hand. If seeds fall out, they're ready to sow

Cuttings sounds like the best option then. I'll go cutting them down when no ones looking
