    Jump on the Smartphone Bandwagon

    GYO could continue its pursuit of world domination and develop a smartphone app. There's very little out there-I've looked-and GYO could be filling a niche. Whilst there are many who will use the mag and the desktop, having a phone app would be handy.

                I was thinking of giving it a go last year using the google app inventor. My idea was to utilise the barcode scanner whereby you scanned your seed packets which would add the info to your grow list. It would then use the locate function when you press a button once stood at your patch so to get your position via GPS/wifi signals which in turn would set up the app for your location so things like climate etc. It would then alert you as time goes on as to what you should be doing, what the seedlings should be looking like, examples of pests etc and give weather alert warnings.

                I only got as far as the idea though as not all seed packets had barcodes lol. Feel free to make this happen though I would certainly use it.

                  Could you add compatibility with tapatalk to the forum, makes forums far easier to read and post on from a phone

                    Do you mean a mobile based version of this site or some other grow your own app that somehow works like the mag? If the latter, you'll need to use smaller words with me as I'm not sure what you're on about.

                    Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                    Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                      Well I like chef UK idea of standing in the plot and having your phone tell you when to plant what. Excepting for the fact that I'm in a mobile blackspot here. I do have a few places in the paddock where the phone rings - so I would have to only plant in those areas I guess.

                      I'd like them to add an app to tell me how much horse manure I need to put on things too - in fact, can I just plant where the horses poop?

                      Don't have an android yet but that will be next I guess, and if the phone has to be smart then I'd like it to be smart about gardening, or outwitting teenagers. Can't be bothered with useless apps, enough useless chaps without adding more to the mix
