This method uses spinach or mustard, sown in rows between crops as a living mulch.
Have a read and see whether its what you have in mind.

I sow green manures in and around my veggies, yes. It's good if you can spot the difference between weed, veg & manure ... otherwise you might be cutting down the wrong thing.

I have lines (leys) of alfalfa in amongst my potatoes & strawbs at the moment. They will grow & be cut for a few years, and I've also got phacelia & buckwheat growing in any gap, which gets cut down when it gets tall enough to cut.
Then I have comfrey plants lining 3 sides of my plot ~ that also gets cut and strewn as a mulch, esp. round the spuds & beans

its got me thinking in a whole new way, i was just going to scatter seeds willy nilly, but i am now thinking straight rows is the way forward.
any suggestions as to suppliers, cheap as possible, preferably
