Hi anyone know where to get wild garlic seeds/bulbs from ?
You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

Most garden centres have them now in plant form in the herb section.

Or try Ramsons in the green

I adore wild garlic. Planning a patch at home and lottie this year - the smell will make me permanently hungry I suspect!

Love it too. We got ours from the local council garden centre where they sell off unused stock each year. It really spreads tho, so make sure you like it! Mine is just starting to peep through now

I bought a pot at Arley Hall at the Grape Meetup last spring; and I noticed it is poking through already...I suspect that in a few months I'll have some to share but not until I know how much grows back.....

Thanks everyone, have tried a few GC but none have it. Looks like I will have to order on tinterweb.

now the silly question ..... do you just pick a few to use and leave the rest to seed themselves ? or collect seed to sow next year ?

            Thanks peeps

Liza I think you use a few leaves like chives and pull a few bulbs - leaving the rest to prosper and multiply. Which I gather it does, in profusion!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hi all, will it grow in any conditions? i've got an area under a load of very tall pine trees which nothing really grows in, could I try it there?

Now I am confused doesnt take much sorry.

How does it multiply if I dont let it seed, do the bulbs split to make more ?

I think it has to be quite damp, it usually grows amongst bluebells on river banks.

But as you can see I am no expert

Liza I think it colonises by dividing as well as setting seed, but I'm not certain as I haven't grown it. However I do know it grows in the banks and by footpaths in Devon and Cornwall - I did a cliff walk near Newlyn and wondered who had brought garlic along before I realised it was me brushing up against the leaves!

Thanks for the info Liza. Hmmmmmmm, that is the one pretty dry area in my garden, but I think I may have another damper one which would suit it.

Just received my wild garlic seeds from Fernell farm.

Instructions : The seeds need a moist loamy soil with a damp shady environment. Do not plant under conifers.

                            Hope this helps.

It does indeed grow in profusion in Cornwall, and I spend quite a lot of time each spring clearing the plants/bulbs out of borders where it has spread. It does no good pulling the leaves away or even strimming them down - it simply grows straight back! So do be aware, if this plant likes its situation it can be very invasive. Perhaps grow it in a large pot, like mint.
