  • Submersible Pumps

I am thinking of buying a submersible pump, my garden is like the north face of the Eiger and my water butts are all at the bottom, I need to be able to pump it up to the top so i have water at the summit. There seems to be a wide choice and price range. Has anyone any experience of particular models? Its probaly 6 or 7 metres over a distance of perhaps 30 metres.

Main considerations will to make sure the pump can easily overcome the head (lift height) & do you want it to have a float switch, beyond that I have only fitted non-submersibles so cannot comment on individual pumps bud.

I used to use one of these from my water butts, it did the job ok. I think it has a height reach of 11mts if memory serves me correct.

Yes I've looked at that one, i think that would do the job. I want a head of water so i can use a hose pipe, it is so much easier. Wouldnt it be nice if we could sell water back to the water company as they do with electricity. I would have made a fortune last night.

We have one with a float switch which is a PAIN as the water has to be deep enough for the switch to float which of course it doesn't when the but is half empty. End up having to tie the switch up so the flaming thing works then it flops as it is quite heavy.

we have this one,it's brilliant, when not in use,it lives in a biscut tin out the way, colour is red,it runs of an ordinary car battery,Model no LVM 105,12 v 4.5A, WHAT EVER THAT MEANS,it will transfer water from top to bottom of our plots, aprox., 130 something foot,it says rest it for 20 mins after 20 mins uses,we find it no bother for longer periods, just lift it out the water and feel if it's hot,is very useful for trancefering it to barrels further away,i suppose you could also connect it onto a seep hose and leave to water, whilst doing other jobs,i even used it this year to pump the smelly stuff from the comfey, rhubarb, horsetail barrels onto the ground, just keep an eye on,not to drain the last few inch, was quite impressed with that one,the pump it's self is not available for photagraphs till i get the lotty, its small, light weight, and powerfull, price, thinks £60 sumat ,well worth it,it even worked up from 1 barrell, into the top of the green house, and out through a fine sprayer,i love it,we got ours from DUEL PUMPS,Melton mowbray,i rang and tolled them what we wanted it for,so got it on their recomendation,i can post the phone no,if wanted,i googled, there are so many that sound the same, but are not,so be carefull,

Bill, I used to own a cafe on Torbay Road (Paignton) we had to have a permanent submersible pump in the cellar, as if we didn't.... Dreadful! Cannot for the life of me remember the make of it though, but it was very good, just had to remember to clean it out regularly or.... big :'(
If I remember I'll let you know, we got it from B & Q Torquay.

Congratulations on your tuberism, I have just left tuberism for cropperdom (that must be why there was a vacancy for you lol)

Fancy you having a cafe in paignton, we might have met lol.

As for pumps Im looking at Clarkes tools website, they have a huge range, good prices and there stuff is good I have had it before. The one simlar to the hozelock is half the price.
